About 109 Chambers | Independent Hamilton Barristers

109 Chambers is a group of independent barristers based at Level 1, 109 Anglesea Street in central Hamilton.

Members of chambers practise across a range of areas, with particular experience in criminal defence, traffic law, parole, trial and appellate advocacy, commercial dispute resolution, independent legal advice and investigations.

Independent practices

109 Chambers is a shared professional chambers rather than a law firm.

Each barrister:

  • operates an independent legal practice;
  • accepts and manages their own instructions;
  • determines their own availability and fees;
  • maintains their own professional obligations;
  • is responsible for the conduct of their own matters; and
  • should be contacted directly about possible instructions.

The barristers are not partners or employees of one another merely because they share chambers.

A central Hamilton base

The chambers are situated at 109 Anglesea Street in central Hamilton. Members regularly undertake work in Hamilton and throughout the Waikato.

Some members also accept instructions elsewhere in New Zealand. Online conferences and hearings may be available where suitable.

Finding the right barrister

The appropriate barrister will depend on:

  • the nature and seriousness of the matter;
  • whether legal aid is required;
  • the barrister’s experience and areas of practice;
  • availability;
  • the location of any hearing or conference; and
  • whether an instructing solicitor is required.

The individual profile pages provide an introduction to each member’s practice and direct contact information.
